O Jesus,
tender little Child,
gentle and lovable,
for me you are all the joy
that there is on this poor earth,
making Himself man,
a little baby.

O my infant Jesus,
that I might become
as You;
as little,
as poor,
as humble,
as simple,
as You!

Each year, the memory of St. Francis' outstanding devotion to the mystery of the Incarnation of the Son of God is renewed wherever a Christian creche scene is erected.  Joined with the Little Poor Man's tender love for the Word Incarnate and his desire to see it as it really was on the night of Jesus' birth in Bethlehem.

In his simple prayer to the Infant Jesus, we find a perfect blending of these basic elements of Franciscan spirituality. The sentiments of the Seraphic Father has so movingly expressed invite us all to join him in asking the little Jesus, meek and humble of Heart, to make our hearts and our lives ever more confirmed to His own.  Then will the true spirit of Christ's birth reign in the world all year long!
